Amendment Summary
This update introduces mandatory requirements adopted at the relevant IMO committee session. Shipowners, operators, and flag state administrations must ensure compliance by the entry-into-force date. The amendment applies to ships of 500 GT and above engaged on international voyages unless otherwise specified.
Amendments were adopted under the tacit acceptance procedure — objections had to be lodged before the entry-into-force date.
Flag states are required to incorporate the amendments into national legislation or issue equivalent instructions to their registered fleet.
Port State Control officers will verify compliance during routine inspections — deficiencies may result in detention.
