A vessel shall proceed in the appropriate traffic lane in the general direction of traffic flow for that lane.
A vessel shall, so far as practicable, keep clear of a traffic separation line or separation zone.
A vessel joining or leaving a traffic lane shall do so at as small an angle to the general direction of traffic flow as practicable.
A vessel shall not cross a separation zone or line except when joining or leaving an adjacent traffic lane, or taking action to avoid immediate danger.
A vessel not using a traffic separation scheme shall avoid it by as wide a margin as is practicable.
TSS Layout
Traffic lanes, separation zones and inshore traffic zones are shown on the relevant Admiralty chart. The TSS is also shown on AVCS ENCs (Electronic Navigational Charts) for ECDIS-equipped vessels. Consult latest chart edition and Notices to Mariners for any amendments.
