Reporting Requirements

Pre-Arrival Report: Submit advance notice to VTS before entering the service area — details vary by port. Typically 24–2 hours before arrival.

Position Reports: Call VTS at designated reporting points with: vessel name, position, speed, next reporting point, destination, and ETA.

AIS: AIS must be active in VTS coverage area. Do not switch off or adjust unless directed by VTS.

Departure: Inform VTS before departure from berth or anchorage — confirm ETA next waypoint or destination.

SOLAS Requirement

Participation in VTS is mandatory under SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 12 for vessels operating in VTS areas designated by coastal states. IMO Resolution A.857(20) provides guidelines for VTS operations. Failure to comply with VTS instructions may constitute an infringement of local maritime regulations.
